1981 - Millrose Games 5000m Salazar charges 4:13.8 opening mile but Suleiman Nyambui (UTEP/Tanzania), a 27yr old junior - the 5 & 10k NCAA outdoor champ and silver medalist at 5k in the Olympics at Moscow, shadowed Salazar the last third of the race, bolting past him on the penultimate lap and finishing in a collegiate indoor 5,000 meter record time, 13:20.4. Salazar finished in 13:23.1. |

| Virgin, Mamede & Emiel Puttemans (BEL) | July 2, '84 - DN Galan track meet - Stockholm Portuguese distance stars Carlos Lopes and Fernando Mamede break a 6 year old Rono WR at 10,000m (27:22.4) / Lopes led most of the way but at the start of the last lap (above) Mamede's kick 1:58, 57.5 (800, 400) sealed the then WR. Mamede-27:13.8, Lopes-27:17.48 and thus led the world list. American Mark Nenow was 3rd with 27:40.96. |

Bickford-27:37.17, Nenow-27:40.85, 3) Mamede-27:41.09, 6) Cova, 10) Steve Jones (ran 2:07.13 marathon 3 monthes later). Nenow would set his then AR the following year 27:20.85, '86. |
