Steve Scott ran 1:54 800 & 4:15 mile at Upland High(74).

From 1977 to 1993, Scott ran a total of 136 sub-4-minute miles, including 15 in one year!

July 7, 1982 , Scott blazed 3:47.69 @ Oslo for the outdoor U.S. record.

Kip Keino vs Jim Ryun

Bobby Beck (Salmen, LA) runs an 8:53.6 2 mile indoors and rips 8:46.9 outdoors. Both marks were second to a guy named Nelson in 1979.

Brent Steiner (Shawnee Mission S., KS) did 8:47.0 for 2 miles in 79 as a junior. Steiner won the first Foot Locker Cross Country Championships then known as the Kinney Cross Country Championships Dec. 6, 1979.

Salazar & Chapa

(L-R)Matt Guisto (San Mateo, CA), Tracy Garrison(Klamath Falls, OR) and Calvin Gaziano(Castro Valley, CA). Guisto improved to 3rd here at the Kinney West Regionals.

Matt Giusto ran away from his regional champ Garrison and the field to win the Kinney Nat'l @ San Diego in 1983. Guisto made the 96 Olympic team at 5000m.

Bob Kennedy leads Matt Guisto. Kennedy ran the AR for 5,000 meters - 12:58.21 in Zürich, Switzerland on 8/14/96.

Bobby Beck (Salmen, Slidell, LA) - Class of '79

Undefeated in Louisiana in XC and Mile/2M in track as a Jr & Sr. Raced - 1:53.6 / 4:07.6 / 8:46.9 (880/Mile/2M).

Went 8:53.6 (2M) indoors (1st and only HS sub-9 run on LA soil.) Behind only Jeff Nelson in 2M in '79, indoors and out.

Sr year Track, Bobby regularly tripled tripled every week - at state, Beck quadrupled: started with a 4:07 mile win, 3rd in 880 with 1:54, 9:17 2M win finished with a 50 second 4x400 anchor!!!!

At LSU, Bobby concentrated primarily on the 1500 and finished his career with a 3:42 PR.

Shots: (L)-open 1500 in '83, (Middle)-5000 at Eugene in an '82 Oregon-LSU dual meet (the same meet where Henry Rono edged Salazar in the open 10K in 27:29.  Jim Hill won this 5000 in 13:30, (R)-1500 SEC Champs-84.

The "Trials to Nowhere" - 1980 Olympic trials

Salazar (10k) & McChesney (5k) made the 80 Olympic team for the boycott year of 1980. Both with third-place finishes.

 

Chapa, an Oregon sophomore, on the way to the NCAA Championship title @ 5000 meters in Oregon.

World Jr X-Country Champs in Wales "76"

Salazar was 5th (behind the 1-2 of Hulst and Hunt).
